Graffiti – No Longer a Crime But an Art Form

By Felix Lehmann

Who would have thought that the day would come when graffiti would be considered an art form and not just a nuisance on inner city walls? Graffiti is the term given to drawings or paintings done on walls, mostly with the use of spray paint. Graffiti became famous as a way of anti establishment groups to express their dissatisfaction with society, sometime in the 1960s and 1970s. However, it has been around for very long before that. There are examples of graffiti that were done by ancient Romans and Greeks on walls and buildings that manage to survive to this day.

Modern graffiti became famous during the Second World War, when American soldiers popularized the phrase “Kilroy was here’ on the walls of various countries where they were fighting. Later on, it became synonymous with the hip hop culture, and subways in many American cities had their walls covered with it. While graffiti is mostly associated with cities in the United States, it is also found in other cities around the world.

Graffiti has always been associated with youth culture. For the longest time it was considered to be nothing but vandalism because the paintings were done on public property. Many people found the bright colors and striking patterns very offensive. There was a drive by public authorities to clean up the walls on which graffiti was done and young people caught doing it were punished. As a matter of fact, teenagers caught with an aerosol paint can in their hands were targeted by civic authorities. Many graffiti artists even gave up doing their artwork as a result of transit authorities constantly removing the pieces they had produced on subway walls.

Over time, especially as a result of being associated with hip hop music, graffiti has entered the mainstream. This happened during the mid 1980’s when many graffiti artists were also break dancers or DJs, both art forms that were an integral element of hip hop. At the same time, there was also a development of the various styles of graffiti. In the beginning, most writing was in the bubble style, but later on there were more elaborate styles created. “Wildstyle” writing became the most popular type of graffiti writing. The link between graffiti and hip hop was strengthened as a result of well known songs that mentioned graffiti directly.

At around the same time, graffiti also began to enter art galleries. This happened along with the separation of graffiti from hip hop into a genre of its own. Another reason was that artists needed a place to display their art since authorities were cleaning up cities with great vigor. The most important reason however, was that it had already entered popular culture. It began to appear in advertisements and even in movies and music videos. Even company logos began to be designed by graffiti artists. Video games, clothes and sports shoes also are decorated with graffiti designs because of their intrinsic artistic merit and their popularity with young people.

Visualize Yourself Flooded With Wealth

By: Joseph Silva

Visualization is one great way to activate the Law of Attraction in our lives, but we often go about it in such a serious way. We meditate, we create our vision boards, we painstakingly create a picture in our minds of what we want our outer circumstances to reflect. This is a good practice overall, but one important component we often forget (or don’t know how to generate) is infusing our vision with powerful emotions. Feelings like joy, love, excitement, and gratitude can emit powerful vibrations that act as a magnet to attract whatever we desire. But how do we generate these feelings over something that’s “make believe”?

There’s a very simple way to do this, and it involves one secret ingredient: FUN!

By making our vision fun and lighthearted, we automatically begin to feel corresponding emotions. Don’t just visualize yourself with a new car; visualize yourself driving that new car and having a blast doing so! Don’t just visualize yourself with the partner of your dreams; visualize yourself locked in a passionate embrace or laughing with your partner over something silly.

Just to get you started, I’d like to share a fun visualization I’ve been using to attract greater abundance into my life. It’s very simple, but as you’ll soon see, it can be incredibly powerful because of the feelings it invokes.

First, find a private place where you won’t be disturbed for a short amount of time. Perform your usual relaxation techniques (deep breathing, mind quieting, etc.) so you feel calm and centered. Then visualize yourself standing in the center of your home. It’s a beautiful warm day outside, so you have all the windows and doors open. Suddenly, off in the distance, you hear a deep rumbling sound. You cock your head and listen intently, wondering where the noise is coming from. It gets louder and louder, and the house begins vibrating and shaking all around you.

You know something big is coming, but strangely you don’t feel frightened, only excited. The roar reaches a crescendo, and suddenly, in through your windows and doors comes a massive flood of dollar bills. Not just dollar bills but also hundred and thousand-dollar bills!! The money is rushing in so quickly that it causes a mini-hurricane over your head, greenery flying everywhere. The bills are accumulating on the floors, furniture, appliances. It’s gushing in through the doors and windows, down the chimney and through the fireplace, coming up through the plumbing, even seeping through the walls!

As you see this unbelievable abundance swirling all around you, you suddenly let out a whoop of pure joy! You begin gathering up handfuls of money as if they were fallen leaves and tossing them into the air, letting them rain down around you. You laugh and laugh because you know you have created this flood of prosperity in your reality. You called it forth with the power of your thoughts, and you feel so proud of your accomplishment!

You raise your face to the ceiling and shout your gratitude to the Universe: “THANK YOU for this amazing gift! Thank you so much for the freedom, fun, and pleasure I will enjoy with this money!”

By now the bills have accumulated to chest-level, and you’re wading joyfully through the rooms of your home, letting your hands trail along the surface of the money. You take a deep breath and hold it, then dive beneath the surface and swim through the green murk. You surface a few feet away, flipping over to do the backstroke for a bit. All the while, you’re laughing and laughing, having great fun with your newfound wealth.

Suddenly you drop your feet to the bottom and stand up again, wondering just what you’re going to do with all of this money. You recall the single mother who lives down the street, and you decide to send her a big box of cash, anonymously. You envision the beaming smiles on the faces of the mother and her children when they receive your gift of love. Then you remember the elderly woman who lives next door, she could probably use some help too. So you box up some more cash for her. You begin thinking about your friends and family members, and decide to bless them with some cash. Oh, you also know some great charitable organizations that could probably use donations! Finally, you remember a few things that you want to buy for yourself, so you stuff some bills in your pockets with which to go shopping.

As you prepare to leave on your shopping excursion, you gaze back at the piles of money you attracted, and you are overcome with a feeling of immense gratitude. You’ve never felt so blessed as you do right now, and you know it will only get better in the future. Finally, you understand that true wealth comes from within, and you’ll never again have to feel powerless or frightened. The prosperity you’ve called forth will continue to grow and multiply, whenever you choose it. With a radiant smile and a wink to the Universe, you close the door behind you and head off to the first of many exciting adventures waiting in your future.

Could you feel the emotions while you were reading that? Do you feel excited and eager to give it a try? Go ahead – I assure you it’s a ton of fun!

By the way, I injected imagery that I feel is fun, but feel free to alter it to better suit your objectives (like replace the money with something else, if that’s what you want).

Whatever you do, have FUN with it! The key point is to get your juices flowing and make you feel GOOD. It’s all that matters in the end.

Staying In Control Of Your Panic Attacks

By: Joshua Simms

If you suffer from anxiety you most likely know that learning how to control panic attacks is an important step in the recovery process. Many people; however, find that traditional prescription medications provide little relief and often leave them feeling groggy and completely unlike their normal self. The good news is that there are ways in which you can control panic attacks that do not require any prescription medications. Read on for more details to find out how.

One of the first steps in learning how to control panic attacks is understanding that even though a panic attack can certainly be frightening at the time, there is no danger that you are going to die from it or that you will be hurt. While many people may feel as though they are going to lose control or go crazy during an attack, this is not actually accurate. Your body is simply responding in a biological manner to a perceived threat. The symptoms you experience during a panic attack are simply your body’s way of releasing the energy you will need to either remain and fight the danger that is perceived or flee from it. Even though you may feel as though you might be having a heart attack, losing control or going crazy, this is not the case. Work on re-training your mind to understand that none of this is going to happen.

It is also important to focus on slowing down in order to learn how to control panic attacks. One of the most common symptoms of a panic attack is an increased rate of breathing and heart rate. You can learn to control this; however, by regularly practicing breathing techniques and exercises. This will help to calm your racing thoughts as well as physically slow down your body. You can do this by inhaling and exhaling slowly and counting as you do so. As your body begins to calm and slow down many of the symptoms associated with panic attacks will also decrease including trembling, dizziness, confusion, muscle aches and tingling.

Other ways in which you can control panic attacks including contacting someone from your support system when you begin to feel first symptoms of a panic attack. This can help you to immediately take control of the situation. Even if you must speak to the person on the phone rather than in person, explaining how you are feeling can provide a good deal of comfort to immediately ease the situation.

Taking a walk to burn off the excess energy and adrenaline your body is releasing can also prove to be quite helpful.

Occupying your mind with something else when you begin to feel anxious is another great way to control panic attacks. Good ways you can do this include noticing details of what else is going on around you and listening to music. Even these simple acts can help to take your mind off the possibility of a panic attack and focus it on something more positive.

With these techniques and guidelines you can learn how to control panic attacks and begin to make the journey toward recovery.

Lessons of Love From Kermit and Piggy

By: Judd Snell

Take a look at Miss Piggy from the muppets. She was always very outgoing and confident, but more importantly she had amazing self-esteem. She thought and firmly believed that she was stunningly beautiful and she displayed it in a very dramatic way. Everyone fell for it, everyone found her to be glamourous. What’s more, Kermit the frog even went and fell in love with her! But let’s look at the truth of the matter – she was a pig!

Now she was no curvaceous Jessica Rabbit from the film “Who framed Roger Rabbit” who was a text book stunner! Miss Piggy certainly did not have the qualities of your typical super-model, I would even put my neck on the line and say that she was a bit chunky.

Developing self-esteem and oozing confidence can and does distinctly increase your ability to be irresistably attractive. It can and very often does create an illusion or aura of value, worth and desirability.

Why do we find a person with high self-esteem to be attractive? What is it about them that draws our attention and admiration? Is it the mystique? Is it an aura? That certain “je ne sais quoi?”

Look at what is happening here; a person who exhibits strong self-esteem is telling the world they value themselves. After all, the meaning of “self-esteem” is the esteem (value) of the self. It is the estimation of worth that you are giving to yourself. So when a person recognises their own self-worth and exhibits that to the rest of us, we start to think that they know something that we don’t! In other words, they think they are special and have value.

Likewise when someone shows the world that they have low self-esteem, we tend to believe and think that if they do not think very highly of themselves, then why should we be impressed or respectful of them? We certainly don’t usually allow ourselves to be dazzled by them.

In both cases, we simply go along with the estimation that what the person has signaled to us is valid. We tend to just believe the verdict that the person has put upon themself.

So why is that attractive? We, as humans, are naturally attracted to that which has been deemed valuable. We also tend to want to be a part of a larger group. We often follow the lead, join groups, and go along with the majority opinion – just to be part of the group.

High self-esteem can also create an illusion of attractiveness, or competence, even when it is not necessarily there. It is possible for us to be fooled. After all, attractiveness is a subjective attribute.

Self-esteem is the way that you feel about yourself, self-confidence is the way you feel about your abilities. Both can enhance your ability to attract partners, pay-rises, friends, sales, success, achievement and lots more. I think it would be valuable to learn how to increase your own self-esteem today. Hey, if it gets Miss Piggy pulling at someones (some-frogs) heart strings, it can do the same for you.
